The Wizard of Oz Broadway Performers Grades: 6th-8th Monday: 5:15-7:15 p.m. Dates: 9/9-11/18 No Class: 10/14 Performance: Monday 11/18 Venue: Athenaeum Center, Lakeview Address: 2936 N Southport Ave, Chicago, IL 60657 The Wizard of Oz is a timeless classic starring Dorothy and Toto, a girl and her dog with a knack for trouble, who suddenly find themselves far from home: "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." They awake in a dreamlike place, but quickly find the "Merry Old Land of Oz" lives in fear of the Wicked Witch of the West, the monkey, Nikko, and their dangerous dancing "Jitterbugs." With the guidance of some sweet new Munchkin friends, and a pair of magical ruby slippers gifted from Glinda the Good Witch, Dorothy journeys down "The Yellow Brick Road" to seek the mysterious Wizard of Oz who may be able to send her back to Kansas. But the friends she makes along the way --a Scarecrow seeking a brain, a Tinman seeking a heart, and a cowardly Lion seeking courage --help Dorothy discover the power she has had inside her all along. And the memory of her loving family, Aunt Em and Uncle Henry, sustains Dorothy on her adventure as she remembers "there's no place like home."
