The Wizard of Oz Broadway Juniors Grades: K-2nd Monday: 4:10-5:10 p.m. Dates: 9/9-11/18 No Class: 10/15 Performance: Monday 11/18 Venue: Athenaeum Center, Lakeview Address: 2936 N Southport Ave The Wizard of Oz is a timeless classic starring Dorothy and Toto, a girl and her dog, who suddenly find themselves far from home–somewhere over the rainbow. They awake in a land full of munchkins, flying monkeys, ruby slippers, a yellow brick road, a good witch, a wicked witch, and a mysterious wizard. Though missing Aunt Em and Uncle Henry back in Kansas, Dorothy and Toto make new friends-- a Scarecrow seeking a brain, a Tinman seeking a heart, and a cowardly Lion seeking courage-- who help Dorothy discover the power she has had inside her all along and remember "there's no place like home." Skyline's Broadway Juniors is an encouraging introductory musical theatre experience designed for young actors that offers the opportunity to sing, dance, act, and embark on an unforgettable journey to bring the magic of The Wizard of Oz to life onstage. Guided by a professional teaching artist, Juniors receive a named role, participate in every scene and song, and gain confidence as they perform together in front of a live audience in spectacular musical numbers such as “Over the Rainbow,” “Merry Old Land of Oz,” and “Yellow Brick Road.” Juniors actors enhance their reading skills as they memorize and recite their lines while bringing their characters to life. The Wizard of Oz offers a perfect balance of dramatic, comedic, and enchanting roles where every actor can shine. Actors are given scripts, music, choreography videos, and access to more helpful materials on Skyline’s exclusive Actor Resource Page. Families receive detailed instructions on how to assemble an original costume, adding the perfect finishing touch to The Wizard of Oz. Join Skyline's Broadway Juniors, where imaginations soar and young actors develop a passion for performing.
