The Wizard of Oz Broadway Stars Grades: 3rd-5th Tuesdays: 5:15-7:15 p.m. Dates: 9/3-11/19 No Class: 11/5 Performance: Tuesday 11/19 Venue: Greenhouse Theater Center, Lincoln Park Address: 2257 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago, IL 60614 The Wizard of Oz is a timeless classic starring Dorothy and Toto, a girl and her dog, who suddenly find themselves far from home–somewhere over the rainbow. They awake in a land full of munchkins, flying monkeys, ruby slippers, a yellow brick road, a good witch, a wicked witch, and a mysterious wizard. Though missing Aunt Em and Uncle Henry back in Kansas, Dorothy and Toto make new friends-- a Scarecrow seeking a brain, a Tinman seeking a heart, and a cowardly Lion seeking courage-- who help Dorothy discover the power she has had inside her all along and remember "there's no place like home." Skyline's Broadway Stars is a no-cut program designed for actors in 3rd-5th grade that offers the opportunity to sing, dance, act, and embark on an unforgettable journey to bring the magic of the Wizard of Oz to life onstage. Guided by a professional teaching artist, Stars are challenged by singing solos, developing characters, and learning fundamental musical theatre choreography in classic musical numbers such as “Over the Rainbow” “Yellow Brick Road,” and “Merry Old Land of Oz.” From the moment auditions kick off on the first day, Stars feel the excitement of lighting up the stage as they showcase their talents. In addition to creating a full musical ensemble, every actor who participates is assigned a named role. The Wizard of Oz offers a perfect balance of dramatic, comedic, and enchanting roles where every actor can shine. Actors are given scripts, music, choreography videos, and access to more helpful materials on Skyline’s exclusive Actor Resource Page. Families receive detailed instructions on how to assemble an original costume, adding the perfect finishing touch to The Wizard of Oz. The stage is set, and the spotlight awaits. Join Skyline’s Broadway Stars to discover the magic of theater!
